Practice-Based Teacher Education 101

Ended Aug 5, 2020

Sorry! The enrollment period is currently closed. Please check back soon.

Full course description

Join Monique Cherry-McDaniel and Simona Goldin for this strand that will be based on the high-leverage practice leading a group discussion, and will make explicit the design framework for how TeachingWorks creates and implements practice-based units, including mapping on the learning cycle, choosing high leverage content, and explicitly attending to justice-focused practice. Participants will observe demonstrations of practice-based teacher educator pedagogies, including using video, transcripts, and conducting peer run-throughs and rehearsal. Participants will also have a chance to try them out, as well as consider how these pedagogies might be leveraged in a hybrid and on-line setting. Please feel free to bring copies of your current syllabi, as you might find ways to immediately improve your practice.

This strand is a wonderful fit for those who are learning about practice-based teacher education for the first time, as well as those who have had some experience with it, but are interested in more intentionally implementing it within their classes or across courses.

We will also use the workshop as an opportunity to practice using a virtual platform to build relationships with one another and to design and use productive learning opportunities for ourselves across a virtual platform. We'll pause several times to facilitate a collective assessment of our effectiveness and the implications our practice might have on your future work with candidates in virtual settings.

Meets daily from 1:00 - 4:00 P.M. EST on August 3 - 5

Please be sure to register using an email address linked to a Google account so that you can work on collaborative documents with colleagues.
